The goal of this study was to refine and further validate Cho and Boster’s measure of impression-relevant involvement (IRI). Subsequent research has not always been able to confirm the validity of Cho and Boster’s IRI measure. Participants were randomly assigned to one of five conditions, with each condition corresponding to a different measure of IRI. Findings indicate that rephrasing the two negatively worded items to positively worded items resulted in a valid measure of IRI in terms of reliability, factor loadings, fit indices, and positive correlations to the related concepts of other-directedness and subjective norms.
