ABSTRACT At this ‘needy time’ in which humanity has been deteriorated into just dominance over nature through modern technicity, Martin Heidegger introduced art as the only way to overcome this modernity crisis. Art has a special place in the perspective of this German philosopher. Art in its ontological sense is the manifestation of truth; and the truth itself is the manifestation of being. In Heidegger’s view, every work of art, in its essence, is poetry; and poetry is as extensive as language. Language has also an ontological interpretation as the genesis of being and truth. This article initially attempts to delve deep into Heidegger’s essay The Origin of the Work of Art; and then moves on to analyze the essence of art and beauty and its source from the perspective of some Muslim thinkers in order to show that Heidegger’s philosophical horizons on art are not unfamiliar to the Islamic Orient.
