I attended the 11th International Conference of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF11) hosted by King’s College London at its Waterloo Campus from 4 to 7 July 2018. As a relative newcomer to English as a lingua franca (ELF) research, my experience has included participation in ELF10 in Helsinki and attending the Japan Association of College English Teachers 56th International Conference ‘English in a Globalized World: Exploring Lingua Franca Research and Pedagogy’ in 2017. I also participated as a copresenter on Day One of EF11, as described in the following. What follows are my observations and thoughts that reflect my interests as a practitioner in Japanese higher education and as a member of a research project focused on monitoring an evolving ELF-informed program.
