ABSTRACT The present paper attempts to highlight the possibilities for the therapist to look within herself in the process of psychotherapy. It journeys the avenues for personal growth that get created in the process of practising therapy. In particular, the paper chronicles the psychological dilemmas a therapist, practising in the Indian context, encountered in her tryst with difficult clients, which she reckons she might never have otherwise been called upon to face. It dwells upon the repeated challenges a therapist faces to find in herself a personal version of the conflicts, dynamics and feelings troubling the client she sees. Finally, the paper juxtaposes personal growth against the analogy of therapist and client being fellow travellers, as captured in the powerful fable of healers by Hesee’s Magister Ludi.
