ABSTRACT Cultural competence is considered the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultures. Through integrating cultural competence in graduate curriculum using literature and readings, we can help to create awareness and instil values necessary to foster a positive impact on the students’ educational experience and subsequently their professional career. Given the changing demographic landscape in the United States and due to the migration of knowledge workers and skilled professionals, there is a greater demand for librarians and information professionals to increase their cultural competence. In this study, we investigate the level of integrating cultural competence in library and information science education (LIS) of United States ranked schools through examining course offerings, student learning outcome, mandated readings and prescribed literature. The findings show that progress has been made over the years as is evident from the number of courses offered and the learning outcomes statements.
