Together Old and Young is an international intergenerational programme and community of practice, initiated and coordinated by International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI), which involves partners and practitioners from over 15 countries: www.toyproject.net. The purpose of the TOY Programme is to promote intergenerational learning (IGL) and create newpossibilities for older adults (65 years old or older) and young children (0 to 10 years old) to learn together and benefit from each other’s company. In the framework of TOY, IGL is also intended as a way to facilitate social interaction and inclusion of all generations and to overcome segregated communities. In 2016, and as part of its overall mission TOY launched a two-year project with the specific aim to support the professional development of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) practitioners, social care practitioners, and community development workers who want to promote and organize IGL initiatives for andwith young children andolder adults. Theproject titled, TOY-PLUS (Together Old and Young: Practitioners Learning and Upscaling Skills) was funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Programme – Adult Education (KA2) and coordinated by ICDI (the Netherlands) in partnership with seven European organizations: The Beth Johnson Foundation (UK) and Linking Generations Northern Ireland, Technical University of Dublin (formally, Dublin Institute of Technology) (Ireland), Educational Research Institute (Slovenia), Azienda Speciale ReteSalute (Italy), Hellenic Open University (Greece), and Municipality of Lleida (Spain). All partners had previous experience in developing, carrying out, monitoring, and evaluating IGL practices. Previous research and the experience of these partners demonstrated that this approach has numerous benefits for all age groups at different levels (Knapp & Stubblefield, 2000), it increases the general well-being
