Abstract: TV cooking shows have gained immense popularity in South Korea in the last few years. In these shows, male chefs and foodies play a crucial role in providing audiences with a space of domestic comfort in the midst of the intensely competitive and demanding social reality. This article examines some of the most popular cooking shows to explore how the image of caring, comforting, and resourceful culinary masculinity in fact reinforces the existing gender norms and hierarchy.
