ABSTRACT This essay interrogates the nature of the question, as it pertains to helping, and how these lessons apply to writing the self in creative writing and to poetry therapy and bibliotherapeutic practice. It explores the various functions of questions used in therapeutic processes and the implications of these functions for self-writing as well as for assisting others in the creative and therapeutic writing. The essay also explores exemplars of how creative writers use questions and the implications of these uses for poetry therapy practice. It presents exercises for creative writers, those engaged in their own self-help and exploration, and helpers using bibliotherapy and poetry therapy.
