This forum represents one stage of an ongoing conversation between Jodi Kim, Grace Hong, Mariam Lam, and Iyko Day about the intersection of Cold War geopolitics, postwar redress cultures, settler colonialism, and transpacific studies. It is inspired by Lisa Yoneyama’s Cold War Ruins: Transpacific Critique of American Justice and Japanese War Crimes, winner of the 2018 Association for Asian American Studies Best Book Award for Humanities and Cultural Studies. The ideas presented here were developed on two panels in 2017, the first at the International Convention of Asia Scholars Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and later at the American Studies Association meeting in Chicago, Illinois, with Lisa Yoneyama responding. This forum follows an author-meets-critics format, with individual contributions followed by concluding reflections by Yoneyama.
