However, the tropical coral Pocillopora verrucosa, such as the one pictured here in the Red Sea, releases its gametes in the daytime, in the mid‐morning. Bouwmeester et al. (Ecosphere, Volume 12, Issue 1, Article e03340; https://doi.org.10.1002/ecs2.3340) document the spawning timing of P. verrucosa in the central Red Sea, on reefs both from western reefs (i.e., Sudan) and from eastern reefs (i.e., Saudi Arabia), reporting for the first time coral reproduction in Sudan with individuals from both coasts of the central Red Sea spawning within a 25‐day window in the spring, following a period of rapidly increasing water temperatures.
