Abstract

The features of the growth and early maturation of brown trout Salmo trutta L. in the Alatsoya River (Republic of Karelia) are studied. As a rule, the age of brown trout in this river does not exceed 3 years and one of its life strategies is the formation of precocious males. Precocious males reach their puberty at age 1+; they are characterized by a larger size than parrs of the same age and have a high growth rate in the first year of life. Females do not reach puberty until age 2+. There is a hypothesis that precocious males begin to appear in the brown trout population from the Alatsoya River during the first summer of their life.
