This work features synthesis, characterization and sensing activity of a novel 1D copper(II)–1,2-diamminocyclohexane (DACH) based coordination polymer with formulation [Cu2(DACH)2Cl3H2O]n (CP1). DFT and Hirshfeld surface analysis of CP1 have been carried out to study the electronic structure and intermolecular interactions of the crystal framework. Owing to remarkable stability and aqueous solubility of CP1, we have carried out sensing activity for various anions. Our results revealed that CP1 proved to be a promising candidate for the detection of hazardous pollutants particularly Cr2O72–and CrO42– (0.1–10 μM) ions along with efficient recyclability.
