Synthesis and properties of hydrogel particles based on chitosan-ferulic acid conjugates

ABSTRACT

Сhitosan-ferulic acid conjugates were synthesized by carbodiimide method and characterized by UV and FTIR spectroscopy. It has been determined that by varying the ratio of components during synthesis it is possible to obtain conjugates with desired ferulic acid content up to 50 μg ferulic acid/1 mg chitosan. Positively charged (zeta potential ~ +20.0 mV) hydrogel particles based on the obtained chitosan-ferulic acid conjugates were formed by ionotropic gelation and their physicochemical properties and phytotoxicity were evaluated.
