Abstract

Propagation of Rayleigh waves is considered in an isotropic thermoelastic semi-infinite medium with isothermal or insulated boundary. This requires to solve an irrational complex equation for an implicit complex velocity. A complex analysis technique is used to solve this implicit equation so as to derive an explicit expression for the velocity of the Rayleigh wave in thermoelastic materials. The same expression allows calculation of the velocity of Rayleigh wave in thermo-viscoelastic medium as well.
