Optimisation of PEO layers with incorporated nanoparticles

ABSTRACT Nanoparticle incorporation into a PEO layer is limited by particle agglomeration on the substrate surface. The quality of the PEO layers was improved by tailoring the electrical pulse profile to the physicochemical processes of layer formation. After optimisation of the parameters it was possible to obtain compact PEO layers on an aluminium alloy 6082 with a thickness of over 30 µm which can be used as a wear and abrasion resistant coating for technical components.
