In the paper, we first present an exact solution for geophysical internal waves with centripetal forces and geophysical edge waves without centripetal forces in modified equatorial -plane approximation. Then we apply the short-wavelength perturbation method to show an instability threshold for geophysical internal waves propagating eastward with centripetal forces and geophysical edge waves without centripetal forces in the modified equatorial -plane approximation.
