Evaluation of Groundwater Types in Earthquake Observation Wells and Relationship Between Formation Cause and Recharge

Analyzing and differentiating borehole groundwater types constitute an effective way to scientifically evaluate the quality of water level observations, the injection or withdrawal mechanism of earthquake groundwater, and the selection of observation well sites that can further improve the effectiveness of earthquake and groundwater monitoring. Using data from digital water levels and air pressure values from six wells in southern Ningxia and the adjacent region, we analyzed the water–rock equilibrium state of each well and identified and evaluated the groundwater types in the aquifer system by combining the measurement results of water samples collected from each well in recent years. In addition, we analyzed groundwater formation as well as the migration and recharge characteristics of these six wells. This study presents methods necessary for the comprehensive evaluation of groundwater types.
