Abstract

This paper considers the previously discovered by the authors non-monotonic effect of the water velocity on the nucleate boiling of a subcooled flow. We present experimental results for the following conditions: initial pressure 0.18 and 0.48 MPa, subcooling level 54 and 120 K, initial flow velocity in the range from 0 to 1.73 m/s, and carry out numerical analysis of the model for nonstationary nucleate boiling. We have studied the results of the numerical analysis of heat fluxes for individual nucleation centers and their influence on the overall thermal picture in the near-wall layer. It is shown that the heat transfer enhancement in the neighborhood of the nucleation centers for liquid velocities of ∼0.4 m/s may result in the increase of the generated vapor volume.
