The Pattern of Allometric Growth and the Structure of Mya uzenensis (Bivalvia: Myidae) Aggregations in Various Parts of the Littoral Zone of Taui Bay, Sea of Okhotsk

Abstract

The density and biomass of aggregations of the clam Mya uzenensis have been studied in four areas of the littoral zone in Taui Bay. Aggregations of this bivalve species were mosaically distributed in the form of beds from 0.5 to 5.0 m2 in size. On suitable sediments, Mya aggregations occupied 25–40% of the littoral zone area. The structure of aggregations in the littoral zone of Ola Liman and Veselaya Bay, formed by clams with a shell size of 22.1–91.1 mm and ages of 2–14 years, is characterized as stable. A study of the allometric shell growth has shown age-related variations in the correlation of proportions, which level out after 10 years of age. The stock of M. uzenensis in the study areas of the littoral zone has been estimated. Thus, an annual landing of 158.4 t of clam can be recommended with a harvest level of 7% of the commercial stock.
