Exploring culture and leadership after 23 years: A replication of GLOBE project in Turkey

Starting in 1995, the GLOBE (Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness) project conducted a comprehensive study of cultural values and leadership ideals in 62 countries. According to GLOBE, Turkey belongs to the Middle Eastern cluster. However, in the past 23 years, Turkey has undergone dramatic social, economic, and political changes that may have affected societal culture and leadership preferences. With the goal to explore the impact of these changes, this study surveys 237 Turkish managers. Results show that four cultural dimensions shifted down one level in their bands. Moreover, compared to 1995, participants indicate higher preference for autonomous and participative leadership.
