illustrations and maps. The editors inserted ‘History Alive’ segments that further explain some specific events. Some parts of this work are encyclopedic – short summaries or definitions explaining who the ‘Balt Tribes’ [sic] were. The appendices are especially informative. Curiously, the book included an insert with a family tree on the back inside cover, by which the contributors can trace their ancestry from the fifteenth century. Scholars may use this work for quick reference, but these well-intentioned Lithuanian patriots have turned this book into an appeasement to the various prejudices of the multitude of diaspora contributors. In addition to the book’s biases, there are too many inconsistencies and writing errors to list. Once again, for a quick reference, the somewhat dated Encyclopedia Lituanica remains the best reference.
