The concept of political culture and components are set out both in the introduction and again, to a greater extent in Chapter 4, where the layout of overall categories in the two-by-two typology are changed (compare Figure 1.1 with Figure 4.6). If this is due to finer differences in the perspectives, they are lost to the reader. In addition, at times, the coding of respondents’ answers changes. This is the case with opinions on who was responsible for the financial crisis that are both in Chapter 4 and, to a lesser extent, repeated in Chapter 5 (compare Table 4.6 with Table 5.9). That issues reappear leaves the impression that the book borders on an anthology rather than a collaborative and consistent monograph. Nevertheless, the book is full of information, relevant observations, and points. It is not only useful to comparative political scientists but also to researchers engaging in research that covers one of the three countries as it views that country in the light of the two others. It is also useful to researchers covering specific issues of development and should be recommended to readers interested in the present history and development of the Baltic states. Given its breadth, scope, and observations, this reviewer will not be surprised if the contribution become a standard reference for years to come.
