Yet, some crucial aspects are mentioned as likely to trigger differentiated outcomes, like the employment guarantee enjoyed by permanently recruited civil servants, which is seen as a form of protection against abuse of power and hence against gender inequality. Therefore, it can be advised that a more developed comparison between the public and private sectors could represent an interesting theoretical and methodological framework within which one could further investigate how the state as an employer favors work norms and practices that are based in and reinforce hegemonic masculinity at the expense of gender equality. Likewise, such a comparison could also be informative for the domains where more targeted political action is most needed. In the end, this book is an exquisite piece of research that provides a rich picture of the complex situation and the composite mechanisms behind gender inequality in the public sector, and hence it is a strong reference for future research aimed at further investigating this subject and building cases for comparison.
