ABSTRACT This study examined the impacts of the ETS on tourism-related CO2 emissions and carbon intensity using a difference-in-differences model. The results show that the ETS is conducive to reducing tourism-related CO2 emissions and tourism carbon intensity. Furthermore, those negative impacts will increase over time. From an empirical perspective, this study could theoretically provide a useful research framework for analyzing the effects of the ETS on tourism development. From a methodological point of view, the research process presented in this study could encourage the difference-in-differences model to be widely adopted in evaluating the impacts of relevant policies on tourism.
