Marr presents an anti-biological view of language, in which the human capacity for vocalization is accorded only secondary importance in comparison to the societal process of sign making. Having established this, Marr is able to present Japhetic linguistics as a synthetic science far outstripping the narrow specialism of Indo-European linguistics.
