attenuating as he goes. As a result, the writing tends to slide rather than arrive, staging moments of transduction for the reader. Boyle has a point, that rhetoric is not pointed; it is the ever-structuring of affect, which embodies capacities for further affection. Given the dynamism of his theory, one unasked question is why is rhetoric an ethic of exercising bodies? Changing metastabilities of transindividual capacities would suggest that rhetoric is always toward the ethical, compelling one to ask about which resources are available and why, but that rhetoricity per se is not an ethic beyond questioning available potential for invention. The slippage between an ethic and a provocation toward the ethical that Boyle presents is just one of the important considerations raised by a book that readers of posthuman theory will find rich and valuable.
