Increased pavement temperature leads to urban heat island effect and thermal distress in pavements. The reduction in pavement temperature reduces the risk of thermal cracks in pavements and also contributes to the mitigation of the urban heat island effect. The primary aim of this study is to analyze the effect of incorporating PVC-glass mix on the thermal and mechanical properties of cement concrete pavements. The PVC-glass mix was incorporated as partial replacement to fine aggregates, at different replacement dosages, and is compared based on their mechanical strength. Results indicate that the PVC-glass mix can be incorporated in concrete pavements without compromising the mechanical strength up to 20% replacement dosage. Moreover, with an increase in PVC-glass mix dosage, a reduction in pavement temperature was observed. A peak reduction of 7.3˚C in the pavement surface temperature was observed with a 20% replacement of fine aggregate with PVC-glass mix.
