Effects of continuous wet weather on the microclimate environment of electrical power plants

An electrical power plant is an essential part of urban architecture; however, ambient humidity has significant influence on the monitoring procedures for industrial gas turbines that serve as the heart of a power plant’s operation. Therefore, the effects of continuous wet weather on the microclimate environment of electrical power plants were investigated. A strong linear relationship appeared in the average temperature and the black globe temperature (0.91) and was followed by the average temperature and the building height (0.79). Approximately 89.96% of subjects felt comfortable in terms of thermal sensation; however, approximately 30.3% of subjects felt very uncomfortable, while approximately 57.9% felt conditions were intolerable with regards to the humidity sensation. The building height impacted the percentage change of a gas turbine’s performance-related quantities. These performance-related quantities could be influenced by the change in the water-air ratio of that accompanies continuous wet weather, which in turn leads to the related quantities perhaps being rather large and substantially larger than the actual values. The held way had significant impact on the percentage change of performance-related quantities. This study offers some important insights into the operation of electrical power plants and possible improvements to a working environment during continuous wet weather.
