This book certainly provides a foundation for students to consider diversity, inclusion and skills development in relation to the social work role. Overall, the book is a very engaging read and is not overwhelming for the reader, whether they are new to study or wanting to brush up on existing skills. The content is universal, other than the links to the Health Care Professions Council – Standards of Proficiency (HCPC, 2017) which is relevant to an English audience only (the regulator will change to Social Work England on the 2 December 2019). There are several references to the British Association of Social Workers, which of course is relevant to a whole British audience. The book is a worthwhile introduction to social work communication skills and would be a useful tool for any student throughout their training.
