This two-wave longitudinal study examined the concurrent and predictive role of satisfaction with relationship status beyond relationship status in predicting young adults’ mental health measured in terms of life satisfaction, emotional and psychological well-being, and depressive symptoms. Cross-sectional findings from wave 1 carried out on a sample of 317 Polish young adults aged 20 to 35 (M = 23.46, SD = 3.04) revealed that higher satisfaction with relationship status predicted higher life satisfaction, higher emotional and psychological well-being, and lower depressive symptoms after controlling for gender, age, and education. Results of the longitudinal wave 2 ran on a subsample from wave 1 (N = 102) partially replicated the results obtained in wave 1 and demonstrated that satisfaction with relationship status at T1 was predictive of life satisfaction at T2, but it was not predictive of emotional and psychological well-being, and depressive symptoms at T2.
