suffer from this difficulty, the importance of interconnection outlined in the introduction does rather draw the reader’s attention to the lack of connection between chapters. As far as the genre can take us, however, the introduction does a good job of setting out the more cohesive historiographical agenda. Overall, this volume is a welcome and thoughtful contribution to the field. Individual chapters make compelling arguments based on extensive research. The wide-ranging and historiographically-astute introduction makes a firm case for gendered imperial formations as a category for further analysis, and moreover convincingly argues for a global approach to comparative colonialisms. As such, this book will be a welcome tool for teaching and research alike.
