Adsorption of Cationic Dye Using A newly Synthesized CaNiFe 2 O 4 /Chitosan Magnetic Nanocomposite: Kinetic and Isotherm Studies

Chitosan biopolymer was extracted from chitin and utilized for the synthesis of CaNiFe2O4/Chitosan as a new magnetic nanocomposite. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesized samples were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, XPS, SEM, and TEM techniques. Adsorption of methylene blue (MB) was evaluated onto CaNiFe2O4/Chitosan nanomaterial. UV–Vis spectrophotometry was used to monitor the removal efficiency. Batch experiments were performed to research the effect of various factors including solution pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, MB initial concentration, and temperature on the adsorption removal of MB. This study reveals that the CaNiFe2O4/Chitosan nanocomposite is indeed an effective, applicable, and affordable adsorbent for the removal of MB with adsorption efficiency of about 88 percent. The highest removal was recorded at 25 °C, 7.6 pH, and 100 mg of CaNiFe2O4/Chitosan dosage. The adsorption data validity was estimated by applying various equilibrium adsorption models and fitted by linear and non-linear regression models (kinetic and isotherm models). Thermodynamically, MB adsorption onto CaNiFe2O4/Chitosan nanocomposite demonstrated spontaneity and viability based on the (negative) values of ∆G and ∆H.
