Natural organic matters as intrinsic microorganic pollutants are a major concern in drinking water in scopes of water supply systems operation, consumer health, aesthetic and so on. This study was done on the real water samples that was first experienced in using integrated processes (pre-ozonation, enhanced coagulation and bio-augmented carbon) for upgrading existing processes of water treatment plant. The parameters of TOC, DOC, UV254, SUV, appearance color, turbidity, pH, TDS, heterotrophic plate count (HPC) and residual bromate were tested after each process. It was revealed that, using 0.5 mg O3/mg TOC, 15 mg/l polyaluminium chloride (PACl), pH = 7.5 and empty bed contact time (EBCT) of 5 min in bio-filter, the removal of TOC is 87%. The concentration of TOC in finished water was 0.8 mg/l that less than standard limit for chlorination (2 mg/l) without formation of bromate as carcinogenic by-product. Upgrading of existing plant by suggested process, not only could remove natural organic matters (NOMs) significantly but also protect reservoir and distribution network against regrowth of biofilm.
