Precise measurements of thermionic emission behaviors for hot gas-phase C60 and C70 molecules

Thermionic emission (delayed ionization) experiments have been performed on nanosecond laser excited gas-phase C60/C70 molecules. Time resolved velocity-map-imaging spectrometer is used to measure a series of photoion spectra in a wide range of time delay. The position distribution features of photoions recorded in each spectrum allow us to well identify a specific ionic species originating from pure delayed ionization process, namely from C60/C70 electron emission without contamination from other decay channels to be activated when molecules have an energy required for thermionic emission. Hence, thermionic emission behaviors for hot C60/C70 molecules can be obtained precisely, which may have significance for improving determination precisions of some basic decay parameters of neutral fullerene molecules.
