Vertical Nanowires Enhanced Spatial Resolution of X-Ray Imaging

We designed a high spatial resolution scintillation screen with a vertical ZnO nanowires structure that converts X-ray to UV-visible light. These well-distributed vertical ZnO nanowires were grown by the hydrothermal method, which plays an important role as a light guide to suppress lateral spreading. Sharp and high X-ray digital images have been obtained from a cooled-CCD camera. The best spatial resolution of 9.8 lp/mm is achieved for 2μm thick ZnO nanowires under a 30 keV monoenergetic X-ray beam. We demonstrated that these solution-growth vertical ZnO nanowires scintillation screen can provide a high X-ray image with high spatial resolution.
