This commentary is in response to “Diversity in the Professional Psychology Training-to-Workforce Pipeline: Results From Doctoral Psychology Student Population Data” by Callahan and colleagues (2018). They found that despite no significant differences with regard to academic qualifications pertaining to GPA and GRE scores, students who identified as African American/Black or Hispanic/Latino were underrepresented in doctoral-level accredited psychology training programs as well as having higher attrition rates. In this commentary, I argue that our current efforts, while well intended, are too fragmented and, thus, there needs to be a more concerted effort and shared responsibility to address the underrepresentation of ethnic and racial minorities in psychology. Additional points for consideration are added to further the dialogue started by Callahan and colleagues.
