This issue marks the end of my term after more than four years as editor of ASQ. It has been a time of significant and positive change for the journal, reflecting changes in the field and the world, as well as changes that our editorial team has made. ASQ has grown a lot. We had 418 submissions in 2016 and 541 in 2019. As I write this, our 2020 submissions are more than a month ahead of the 2019 pace. Not surprisingly, this means we also publish more papers now. For years ASQ was known for publishing only 16 papers per year, and 2016 was no exception, but we now have 28 per volume plus a robust queue of articles published online for future issues. We have grown from just over 700 pages in 2016 to more than 1,000 pages per volume. We have our authors to thank for this growth because we are just as selective as ever—and even more impactful per the usual citation statistics. And this growth would not have happened without the outstanding work of our associate editors, editorial board, and ad hoc reviewers, who devote much time and energy to nurturing the best submissions and guiding them toward publication.
