This study considers individuals' psychological ownership of the organization (POO) and psychological ownership of the job (POJ) as key factors that may interact to motivate ambidexterity. We collected responses from organizations in South Korea and analyzed the data. The results indicate that the relationship of POJ with exploitation is stronger than that of POO, while the relationship of POO with exploration is stronger than that of POJ. Furthermore, the interaction of POO and POJ is positively related to ambidexterity. This study contributes to a novel understanding of how individuals' POO and POJ may be differently motivated to pursue exploitation and exploration behaviors as well as how reconciliation of the psychological states related to their ownership targets can create synergies and support the emergence of ambidextrous behaviors. Thus, this study contributes to the emerging dialogue on the micro-foundations of ambidexterity and provides new insights into the psychological ownership literature.
