On the Cover: Covid‐19

I was in a conversation with a colleague, telling her I was going to take some time off from work to paint the wall – a work instruction from my wife. There is no doubt that this colleague is a dedicated psychometrician because she recommended I paint a test characteristic curve (TCC) on the wall. I might do it if I opened my own consulting firm someday, but for now I would rather paint the cover on this issue.

This issue's cover features EM:IP with COVID‐19 created by myself.

Editor Deborah Harris conceived the idea for a special issue on the impact of Covid‐19 on the field of educational measurement. With Covid‐19 still going on, the articles in in this issue are timely. I hope this cover would help to tie together all these articles.

I created the graph using PowerPoint, a software most EM:IP readers should be familiar with. The font type I chose is CHILLER, which helps to express the horrific impact of Covid‐19. The images of the coronavirus spread to all four letters of EM:IP, signaling the impact on Education, on Measurement, on Issues, and on Practice.

The image I used for the coronavirus is a work of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, taken or made as part of an employee's official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image is in the public domain. The authors are Alissa Eckert, MS and Dan Higgins, MAM. The image can be found through this link: https://phil.cdc.gov/Details.aspx?pid=23312.

I enjoyed creating this graph and plan to paint it on the wall. Well, my wife will not allow. On the wall or not, Covid‐19 will linger in our memory for quite a long time.

封面:Covid‐19
