ABSTRACT

Fashion shows in built heritage despite being ephemeral can be viewed as events that are composed of semiotic elements, in which these elements when combined can generate a variety of meanings that configure an overall impression of the show. Interpretation can be diverse, depending on the extent of including the elements of the built heritage to the event, or how much relation or relevance the audience observes between the event and the venue. Even more, the diversity of fashion shows create a diversity of meanings. While fashion shows held in nondescript venues may not have much of the venue’s physical and intrinsic qualities to do with the show, venues with heritage value supply additional information about the venue, which the audience can interpret along with the show based on the built heritage’s signification.
