Overall, this volume is a useful introduction to assessment in L2 pronunciation and an excellent addition to publications dedicated to work in this domain. Its drawback, if any, is that owing to the limited length of this volume, it is not possible to illustrate all issues related to L2 pronunciation assessment in detail. For example, little is touched upon of the learning-oriented assessment of pronunciation, where, in the globalized era of technology, a vast number of learners are increasingly expected to make use of the diagnostic feedback generated by automated scoring systems when they take tests. The application of such automated scoring systems and its impact on facilitating learning warrant more attention. That said, the strengths of this volume significantly outweigh the limitations. This volume is an essential and stimulating read for students and researchers in the testing domain, English teachers, and test developers. We highly recommend it as supplemental reading material in language assessment courses and as a reference for anyone interested in L2 pronunciation and language assessment.
