ABSTRACT

Quantitative linguistics (QL) is a discipline whose research goal is to explore the language patterns and linguistic laws using quantitative methods. But the word ‘quantitative’ poses great challenges to many language researchers who have love-hate feelings of QL. To this end, we need a good introductory textbook intended for beginners. But there have been few textbooks in a strict sense until two textbooks of QL were published in 2017: Quantitative Linguistics, an Invitation, and An Introduction to Quantitative Linguistics. In view of the nature of QL, we hold that a good QL textbook should meet the five principles: (1) scientificity, (2) authentic materials, (3) practicality, (4) transparency and (5) transference of knowledge. Based on the five principles, we introduced and analyzed these two textbooks. We came to the conclusion that both books can be regarded as good textbooks for beginners and researchers of QL. In the future, more high-quality QL textbooks are expected, written in different languages and with exercises to boost the discipline development of QL.

定量语言学（QL）是一门学科，其研究目标是使用定量方法探索语言模式和语言规律。但是，“定量”一词对许多对QL充满爱恨交织的语言研究人员提出了巨大的挑战。为此，我们需要一本适合初学者的入门书籍。但是严格意义上的教科书很少，直到2017年出版了两本QL教科书：《定量语言学》，《邀请》和《定量语言学导论》。。鉴于QL的性质，我们认为一本好的QL教科书应符合以下五个原则：（1）科学性；（2）真实材料；（3）实用性；（4）透明性；（5）知识转移。基于这五个原则，我们介绍并分析了这两本教科书。我们得出的结论是，这两本书对于QL的初学者和研究人员都可以视为优秀的教科书。将来，期望有更多高质量的QL教科书，用不同的语言编写并通过练习来促进QL的学科发展。
