The Second Edition of the Essentials of Assessment Report Writing delivered its promise in helping clinicians develop skills and competencies in writing while promoting a common vision of creating a comprehensive, inclusive, and compassionate assessment report for each examinee. Embedded with 11 annotated reports, the book provides practical and clear suggestions for effective assessment report writing using a personcentered approach. The authors challenge both beginner and advanced clinicians to use different approaches and strategic techniques in conceptual thinking throughout the interaction with the examinee, writing the report, providing feedback, and implementing recommendations and interventions based on the assessment. The general theme of letting the referral questions drive the assessment process and utilizing the clinician’s natural abilities in empathic communication is clearly integrated into each and every chapter of the book. The book thoroughly assembles a breadth of information in providing general suggestions to improve the understandability of the report as a whole. Moreover, practical suggestions made to particular sections of the report, including background information, behavioral observations, communicating test results, and recommendations based on the assessment, are thoroughly discussed in individual chapters. Overall, the Second Edition of the Essentials of Assessment Report Writing challenges clinicians in different levels of training and expertise at improving writing skills while increasing interpersonal sensitivity to the individual client in generating a precise, informative, and meaningful assessment. Compared with the first edition, the authors indicated that they reworked and restructured the book for a greater focus on utility and professional communication of observations and insights.
