Abstract—
Phase equilibria in the quaternary reciprocal water–salt systems K+, Na+||\({\text{HCO}}_{{\text{3}}}^{-},\)HCOO––H2O and K+, Na+||\({\text{CO}}_{{\text{3}}}^{{{\text{2}}-}},\) HCOO––H2O at 25°C were studied for the first time. A theoretical calculation determined that the stable pair of salts in the systems are sodium formate and sodium carbonate or bicarbonate. Analysis of the obtained phase diagrams showed that the crystallization fields of sodium carbonate or bicarbonate are maximum, and the crystallization field of sodium formate is minimum. Theoretical justification was given to the process of producing saturated solutions of potassium formate from sodium formate and potassium carbonate or bicarbonate.
