Bis (tridentate) divalent first-row transition metal ion (Zn, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co) complexes: Crystal structure, nonlinear optical property, and magnetic resonance imaging

Five divalent first-row transition metal coordination compounds based on 4′-ferrocenyl-2, 2′: 6′, 2′'-terpyridine, M(L)2(PF6)2 (M=Zn, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co), have been synthesized, the structures of which have been determined, analyzed, and compared through single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of them have been measured with the Z-scan technique, and the results showed that all the complexes have an excellent nonlinear optical response. Furthermore, the inversion recovery method indicated that these complexes could possess the targeting ability to Hela cells and made the contrast effect enhanced.
