In recent decades, the discovery and the development of new materials, mainly polymer-based, has opened new perspectives for the improvement of extruded high-voltage cables for transmission lines. The implementation of new materials in extruded cables, allows both the raising of voltage limitations for currently used insulation materials; and enables longer application life. Extra-High Voltage DC cables, in particular, are among the biggest challenges that modern electrical engineering is facing.
