Virtually all climate scientists have concluded that steadily increasing emissions of anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) since the mid-1800s are contributing to changes in the Earth’s climate. And there’s widespread agreement that those changes are causing higher air and sea temperatures, which lead to more major fires in drier-than-normal forests and more frequent and increased-intensity extreme meteorological events, such as hurricanes and typhoons. Even non-scientists who may not take the time to digest the data that supports these conclusions can attest to the real damage caused by climate change, especially those who have lost loved ones, their homes, and/or their businesses to fires and floods.
