Failure analysis of the TP347H austenitic stainless steel tube of boiler reheater in a coal-fired power plant

The failure mechanism and the prevention method for TP347H stainless steel tube serviced in boiler reheater in a coal-fired power plant are presented in this paper. Through studies of detailed mechanical characteristics, microstructure, chemical composition and magnetic property, the mechanisms of reheater tube failure are found to be attributed to long-term overheating, second phase precipitating and coarsening along the grain boundary and formation of high content of deformation induced martensite (DIM) structure.
