Catching the Attention of Generation Z Chemical Engineering Students for Particle Technology

The aim of this paper is to describe a case study on which we describe the methodology we are employing with these Gen Z student group to motivate and catch their attention, and we analyze if this adaptation of our teaching style has developed in a better development of our performance. In an attempt to move away from professor-centered to student-centered learning, the proposed methodology makes use of not only direct instruction technique but also new strategies such as flipped classroom or collaborative learning. The purpose is to make particle technology more appealing as a subject to this new generation of students by emphasizing the self-learning, do-it-yourself, lifelong learning approaches. The students’ results show that, from 2007 onwards, there is a slight increasing in the number of students with A or B grades, which can partially be assumed to be a consequence of the methodological techniques. From the students’ assessment, it can be concluded that they perceive that taking this subject is worthy, as they finally achieve a high degree of learning, so they recommend it to the next generations.
