Viscosity of the Slags of the Autogenous Smelting of Copper–Zinc Concentrates

The temperature dependences of the viscosity of the slags of the autogenous smelting of copper–zinc concentrates have been determined. The activation energies of viscous flow and the temperature of the onset of solidification of the molten slags are calculated. The influence of the suspension (magnetite) and emulsion (matte) components on the slag viscosity has been estimated. The sedimentation of the molten slags, especially in the case of a high copper content in them, makes it possible to separate the part of dispersed matte sulfide particles into a bottom phase. The results obtained can be used to optimize slag compositions and to decrease the copper losses.
